The weather in Spain is what draws millions of holidaymakers each year. Mediterranean Spain and its surrounding islands enjoy sub-tropical hot summers, mild winters, with up to 12 hours of sunlight in the summer and an average temperature of 23°C. Continental Spain enjoys similar summer temperatures, however winter temperatures have been known to plummet to well below freezing. In parts of the north the climate is greatly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, with temperatures ranging from 9°C in winter to 18°C in summer. This is also the wettest part of Spain, getting up to 1500mm of precipitation a year.
