A thrilling Arctic exploration

On this epic cruise adventure, experience the magnificent raw beauty of, the largest island on earth. No less than seven calls are made enabling you to discover this mesmerising world of icebergs, dramatic mountains, fjord splendour and nature at its most powerful. Complementing this exploration are highlights of Iceland, the Land of Fire and Ice and the scenic Faroes. The rugged, unspoilt beauty of the Faroe Islands sets the scene with its colourful capital Tórshavn, where you can stroll the streets of the well-preserved Old Town or explore dramatic landscapes beyond on optional tours. Then it's on to Iceland where our first stop is the east coast town of Seydisfjördur set on one of the island's best natural harbours, and then Akureyri, a charming settlement known as Iceland's capital of the north.

Tours from here can take you to the breathtaking waterfalls and stunning landscapes for which Iceland is famed, before we set sail for the remote settlements of Greenland.With its mountainous backdrop and views over the iceberg-strewn harbour, Tasiilaq is east Greenland’s largest town, while the sleepy village of Narsarsuaq is where the Norse Vikings settled centuries ago and is gateway to South Greenland, with its name meaning the large plain after its natural surroundings.

Optional hiking and boat trips offer some of the best views around Qeqertarsuaq which stands on the great Disko Island far off Greenland’s west coast. Ilulissat is the place for icebergs; and optional boat tours get even closer to these giant natural sculptures.

We venture into the Arctic Circle at Sismiut, Greenland’s second largest town where there are optional bus tours offering a more relaxing way to admire the views. Kangerlussuaq is a gateway to the rugged back country, making it ideal for optional wildlife tours, but our final Greenland stop is the capital, Nuuk, where you can take a walk along the picturesque harbour or to view the Northern lights inspired Katuaq Cultural Centre.

Marco Polo’s return sailing stops at Iceland’s quirky capital Reykjavik where the waters of its famous Blue Lagoon can provide the perfect pick-me-up.

CMV Marco Polo

The 22,080grt Bahamian flagged Marco Polo cruise ship with her handsome traditional profile, beautiful teak decks and distinctive dark blue hull is a classic ocean liner. She can accommodate up to 800 guests within a warm and friendly atmosphere that reflects a truly intimate cruise experience. The ms Marco Polo is fully stabilised and air conditioned and has eight passenger decks serviced by three main lobbies and four lifts.

The Marco Polo cruise ship offers a wide range of public facilities including the impressive Waldorf Restaurant offering a traditional two sitting fixed time dining option and, as an alternative more informal experience, the stylish Marco’s Bistro.

There are five main lounge areas. The Magellan Deck offers the theatre style Marco Polo Lounge; the elegant Captain’s Club, a perfect venue for pre-dinner cocktails with the resident pianist; relaxing Palm Garden, with wonderful panoramic ocean views; and the stylish Columbus Lounge where the head barman will soon get to know your favourite drink. Completing the quintet is Scott’s Bar, located on Amundsen Deck, an ideal spot for night owls.

Cabin Information

Marco Polo is an extremely comfortable ocean liner with a wide range of public areas and deck spaces in which to relax. However, it is your cabin that should be the perfect place to unwind after a busy day sightseeing ashore and your unobtrusive cabin steward will ensure that you enjoy a high degree of comfort and service, whichever grade of accommodation you decide best suits your holiday requirements. There are fifteen categories of cabins and suites, primarily graded according to size and deck position and even in the most economical cabins, the standard features are impressive.

Standard Twin Inner:
Average size 110 sq ft/10.21 sq m Located on Caribic and Baltic decks, these smaller have two lower beds, a bathroom with shower and WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Standard Plus Twin Inner:
Average size 126 sq ft/11.71 sq m Also comprising two lower beds, there are four of these slightly larger cabins on Caribic Deck, whilst the majority are situated on Baltic & Atlantic Decks. Amenities include a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console andpersonal safe. Six of these cabins have an additional Pullman berth for a third passenger.

Superior Twin Inner:
Average size 126 sq ft/11.71 sq m Most cabins are located throughout Pacific Deck but there are six slightly smaller cabins situated on Amundsen Deck and they all comprise two lower beds, a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Premium Twin Inner:
Average size 158 sq ft/14.70 sq m The most spacious inner cabins can be found on the Pacific, Amundsen & Columbus Decks. They comprise of two lower beds but the majority of cabins in this grade can also offer accommodation for a third or fourth passenger in additional Pullman berths. Amenities include a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. Cabins 631 and 655 on Amundsen Deck are specifically equipped for wheelchair passengers with mobility limitations and their compamions.

Standard Twin Ocean View:
Average size 119 sq ft/11.08 sq m Situated on the Caribic and Baltic Decks, these cabins have twin lower beds and most benefit from ocean views through two portholes. They have a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Standard Twin Ocean View:
Average size 126 sq ft/11.78 sq m Comprising two lower beds, these slightly larger cabins are located on Caribic, Baltic & Atlantic Decks and enjoy ocean views through either one or two portholes. Two cabins, 255 and 262 have an upper Pullman berth for an additional occupant. Facilities include a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Standard Twin Plus Ocean View:
Average size 141 sq ft/13.14 sq m This grade of cabins extends over three decks with larger cabins found on the Caribic and Baltic Decks, and the more compact located on the higher Atlantic Deck. Most cabins have two portholes although some have only one. and each has a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. A number of the lower deck cabins have additional berths for a third or fourth occupant.

Superior Twin Ocean View:
Average size 137 sq ft/12.75 sq m These cabins are situated on the higher Amundsen & Columbus Decks and whilst they have windows rather than portholes, some, primarily on Columbus Deck, have obstructed sightlines and these are indicated by the circle symbol on the deckplan. In addition some of the cabins on Amundsen Deck have limited wardrobe space. Amenities include a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. Two of these cabins have an additional Pullman berth for a third passenger.

Superior Plus Twin Ocean View:
Average size 139 sq ft/12.91 sq m There are six cabins situated forward on Amundsen Deck whilst the remainder of the Superior Plus accommodation is located in the forward and after sections of Pacific Deck. They have one window and a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Premium Twin Ocean View:
Average size 161 sq ft/15.02 sq m These spacious premium cabins are primarily located in the midships section of Pacific Deck and here most twin bed cabins (except 432 & 433) can convert to a Queen Size bed. Cabins 549, 605 and 606 have double beds only and cannot be conerted to twins. There are also two forward cabins on Amundsen Deck and three forward cabins on Columbus Deck. The remaining cabins of this grade are on Navigator, the highest passenger deck, but have views partially obstructed by the lifeboats. Each cabin has a large window, in many cases two; as well as a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe.

Junior Suite Ocean View:
Average size 253 sq ft/23.50 sq m There are just four Junior Suites; two each on the Pacific & the Columbus decks. These delightful cabins have twin beds, which can convert to Queen Size, an integral sitting area, a marble bathroom with bath, shower and WC, a refrigerator, walk-in wardrobe and plenty of drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. All four Junior Suites have windows although cabins 811 and 812 have views partially obstructed by the lifeboats.

De Luxe Ocean View:
Average size 213 sq ft/19.81 sq m There are eight De Luxe cabins, two of which are situated on Pacific (twin bedded) and six located on Navigator Deck (Queen Size bed). They benefit from large windows and comprise an integral sitting area, a bathroom with bath, shower & WC, a refrigerator, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. Cabins on Navigator Deck (pictured) have partially obstructed views.

De Luxe Suite Ocean View:
Located on Navigator Deck, these six beautifully appointed Royal Suites with balconies comprise a sitting area including a sofa bed, private en-suite facilities with Jacuzzi bath and shower above, mirrored dressing table, walk-in wardrobe and ample storage space. These suites are equipped with two flat-screen televisions, DVD player, hairdryer, personal safe and fridge.

Single Traveller

Standard Single Inner:
Average size 100 sq ft/9.31 sq m Two of these comfortable cabins are on Caribic Deck and three are located on the Coumbus Deck. Each has a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. They are particularly well suited to the single traveller.

Standard Single Ocean View:
Average size 129 sq ft/11.97 sq m Ten outside twin bed cabins, deemed as particularly suitable for sole occupancy, have been selected on Pacific and Amundsen Decks for single travellers. They have one window and a bathroom with shower & WC, wardrobes and drawer space, mirrored dressing table, TV, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, music console and personal safe. Cabins 656 and 661 have partially obstructed views.

Dining Information

Restaurants:
Our maitre’d and his attentive waiting staff will welcome you to the elegant Waldorf Restaurant where you can opt for a full English breakfast, savour a leisurely five-course lunch and enjoy a delightful dinner every day of your cruise. Whilst breakfasts and lunches are generally served in the restaurant on an open seating basis, two fixed time sittings are operated for dinner in the evening.

As a casual alternative, the light and airy Marco’s Restaurant is open every day for buffet style breakfast, lunches and dinner. Here informality is the key and you can feel free to drop in without any ceremony.

The Pool Deck lends itself particularly well to al fresco meals so a buffet breakfast or lunch from Marco’s can be served up with a complimentary ocean view!

Lounges:
Why not settle down and enjoy wonderful panoramic ocean views in the relaxing Palm Garden, or in a secluded corner of the delightful Columbus Lounge where the head barman will soon get to know your favourite drink. At the very heart of Marco Polo is the stylish Captain’s Club, a popular place to meet fellow passengers. To start your evening you might opt for a pre-dinner drink here and enjoy a few of your favourite melodies played by our resident pianist .

After dinner the show team would enjoy the pleasure of your company in the comfortable theatre-style Marco Polo Lounge as our artists display their talents in a snappily choreographed revue or colourful floorshow – all you need to do is just sit back and enjoy. Scotts Bar is an ideal spot for evening entertainment and late night dancing for the night owls! Located on Amundsen Deck, Scotts has direct access to the outside and a view of the pool deck below.

Main Theatre:
Following dinner the show team would enjoy the pleasure of your company in the comfortable Show Lounge as our artists display their talents in a stylish show - all you need to do is just sit back and enjoy. Our speciality acts and guest entertainers complement the show team to ensure that your evenings go with a swing.

A Laugh on the Ocean Waves:
Following the great success of many guest acts from the field of comedy we are launching ‘A Laugh on the Ocean Waves’ where, on selected cruises, you are invited to enjoy the talents of one of our guest comedians Laughter is the best medicine so enjoy the talents of our comedy acts with their dedicated evening shows, hear them talk about their life experience and listen to their Comedy Corner interviews with the Cruise Director.

Arts & Crafts:
With Arts and Crafts growing in popularity, we are including sessions on all CMV cruises of five nights or more. Specialists will be delighted to demonstrate their talents replicating many of the growing number of new crafting skills now witnessed on dedicated TV channels. These may include millinery, bead jewellery, mosaic decoration, calligraphy and decorative card art. You may need to buy materials on board which will be supplied by the crafter for a modest charge.

An Audience With:
On selected cruises we feature our light hearted ‘Audience With …’ where you are invited to listen to an invited guest speaker or performer talk about their life experience and expert knowledge interspersed with questions from you, the audience. This offers you a great chance to become involved and be a part of the fun. Our audiences love them, we hope you will too.

Guest Speakers:
Learn more about a fascinating subject from someone who is passionate about their interest and will want to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you. CMV cruises of five nights or more are accompanied by one or more of these experts giving informative talks or practical sessions on a range of fascinating subjects. These speaker subjects may include maritime history, broadcasting, gardens and even criminology! They are generally programmed to take place during days spent at sea rather than in port, so that you won’t miss out.

CMV Club Class:
If you’d like to play bridge, backgammon, chess or another activity, simply have a word with our Librarian. After a brief sign-up session you are then put in touch with other passengers who share the same interests, allowing you to make the most of your time aboard. It’s never forced – just helpful.

Daytime Activities:
When at sea, you may choose from a work-out in the gym; a make-over in the beauty salon; a swim in the pool; deck games or join in a quiz. There’s always something going on.

Jade Wellness Centre:
The beautifully appointed Jade Wellness Centre is nature’s secret of well being on the Marco Polo. It offers hairdressing & beauty treatments, fitness and exercise equipment, and sauna and massage facilities. Why not indulge yourself with life’s most perfect gifts: relaxation, invigoration and rejuvenation. Treat yourself to a spa package and design your own special day.

Out on Deck:
There is an outdoor swimming pool plus three whirlpools and, in keeping with her heritage, the Amundsen Deck offers a traditional walk around promenade for that daily exercise or romantic stroll before you decide to call it a night.
