As you wander around the resorts of the Algarve, one of the instant things you will notice is just how important good food is to the locals here. The resorts are a food lover’s paradise, packed with restaurants and cafes to cater for pretty much every cuisine you could wish for.

When it comes to the best restaurants in the Algarve, there are too many to mention but here are some to look out for.

Experiencing authentic Portuguese food is not to be missed. The menus are predominately designed around seafood and meat dishes, and be prepared for some big portions. It is also worth noting if you are vegetarian, as you may need to check if your dietary requirements can be accommodated.

Home from home food

Located off the new strip in Albufeira, the Cockerel Country Kitchen is one of the longest running established English restaurants, where you can find firm favourites from the UK including English breakfasts, cod and chips and the good old Sunday roast.


Try a little of everything

Bon Bon Restaurante in Carvoeiro is a cosy little a la carte perfect for a night of fine dining. The cuisine is Mediterranean style with a hint of Portuguese flavours. If you are undecided by the many delicious choices, the tasting menu is highly recommended.


A Thai feast

If you feel like trying some international cuisines, head over to My Thai, Vilamoura. The restaurant is a new addition to the resort, serving up a range of Thai specialities in a perfect location overlooking the marina.


Local specials

Family run Casa do Pintor Gourmet & Bistro in Lagos, is located at the top end of town. A beautiful mixture of French and Portuguese dishes will delight food lovers and the relaxed atmosphere is the final topping to cook up a great family night out.

 

Best bars in the Algarve

When it comes to night time entertainment The Algarve offers a wide selection of pubs, bars and clubs, so you are sure to find somewhere to suit your taste. Most resorts have family friendly pubs for quieter nights but if you are looking for a more diverse evening out, larger places such as Albufeira are home to some of the best bars in The Algarve, which love to keep partying all night.

Michael’s Bar, Alvor

Get yourself in full swing holiday mood by stopping off for a cocktail at family friendly Michael’s bar, which located outside Alvor Town. Sports are available on giant screens for sports fanatics and for all budding X-factor finalists out there, here’s your chance to grab a mic with a spot of karaoke.


Atlantic Bar, Vilamoura

Known to many locals as the “Piano bar” this stylish bar is situated in a wonderful position with stunning views over Vilamoura Marina. Sit back and enjoy live music every night whilst sipping one of their signature cocktails.


Tunes Bar, Albufeira

Located in Albufeira’s Old Town, this British owned bar welcomes you in for food and drinks in a relaxed environment with friendly staff. Relax while watching live sports or just ask and they will happily get some music going with anything from Motown to Rock, after all it’s not called Tunes for nothing.


The Shamrock Irish Bar, Albufeira

Conveniently located in Albufeira’s Old Town, this is the only Irish bar on the main strip ‘bar street’ and is an ideal place to visit for fun nights of traditional Irish music with friendly staff who might even get you up on your feet dancing. Keep an eye out for their Irish flag as Shamrock’s building can be easy to miss, up on the first floor next to the commercial centre.
